HOW TO CLEAN YOUR Hot Tub Filter Cartridge

When should a filter cartridge be cleaned?

For hot tubs, establish a routine cartridge cleaning schedule based on the amount of spa usage. This should include rinsing the cartridge weekly (or more frequently with heavy use), as well as using Rapid Action Filter Cleanse every 4-6 weeks.

What is the procedure to clean my cartridge?

  1. Remove the cartridge from the filter housing following the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Use a garden hose with a straight flow nozzle to wash down the filter element.  Work from the top down, holding the nozzle at a 45o angle, and wash all the pleats with emphasis between pleats. Never use a pressure washer as this will damage the filter.
  3. Rinse until all dirt and debris is gone.
  4. As hot tub filter cartridges have to filter out perspiration, suntan lotions, body lotions, hair products, makeup, etc and other oils it is important to chemically clean the filter cartridge as rinsing will not remove these.
  5. For hot tub filters: Add 200ml of Rapid Action Filter Cleanse for lightly used, 300ml for moderately used, or 400ml for heavily used filters to warm-hot water ensuring the filter is completely submerged.
  6. Let soak for 15-60 minutes then rinse the cartridge again to remove oils and cleaning solution.
  7. Let the cartridge air dry completely before installing it back into the filter housing.
