Getting an inground pool is a big decision. There are so many details to consider, and sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. We’ve created this guide to get you fully acquainted with the process. Read on to discover everything you need to know about designing and installing your new pool!
Step 1: Finding the right builder
With a project this big, it’s important to work with a pool builder you can trust. We may be biased, but we believe Buds is the best choice in the greater Hamilton and Burlington regions. We’ve been building and installing pools in the region since 1967, and are one of the oldest pool and spa companies in Canada. Our experienced team of fully-insured pool installers will get your job done right the first time.
Step 2: Design your dream pool
Once you’ve selected your builder, you’ll need to customize your pool options to suit your budget and preferences. You’ll need to think about the size, shape, type of liner, and additional features that you may wish to include. The Buds sales team is happy to help guide you through this process. If you want to get started on your own, you can also try our backyard builder tool. The backyard builder will allow you to select from a range of options and provide you with a price estimate to give you a better sense of the possibilities within your budget. Try it today!
Step 3: Preparing to build
Once you’ve signed off on your pool design, your builder will start getting ready for installation. The first step is to submit your enclosure application permit. At Buds, we handle all City of Hamilton permits for you and can provide assistance for all other municipalities, so you won’t have much to worry about before we break ground.
You’ll also need to secure an electrician, gas fitter and/or contractor to complete the concrete or stonework around your pool. At Buds, if you’ve included the pool deck in your contract, we’ll handle getting the contractor for you. We can also provide our tried and true contractor recommendations to ensure a continuation of professional services in all areas of the project.
When all the preliminaries have been completed, your builder will set a tentative start date for work to begin.
Step 4: The big dig
The digging stage typically takes about 5 days to complete, barring unforeseen weather or other scheduling issues. During this stage your builder will draw an excavation outline on the ground, then bring in their crew to dig the hole. The pool shell will then be built on site and installed along with any required plumbing and equipment.
Step 5: Pool perimeter and fencing
During this phase the goal is to finish the area around your pool. Your concrete contractor or landscaper will complete concrete decking or stonework as required. Any fencing that may be required to meet your permit requirements will also be completed.
Once this work is done, you’ll need to schedule your enclosure inspection with your municipality. The building inspector will then need to sign off to verify that your enclosure and equipment setbacks are up to code.
Step 6: Finishing touches
Now the structure of your pool, and surrounding deck and enclosure have been completed, but there are a few more steps before you can actually take that first dip. Your pool installer will need to complete all liner work and fill your pool with water. Then your electrician and gas fitter will complete all utility hook ups. Finally, your pool installer will start the pool system and ensure everything is running smoothly. Now your pool is ready for everyone to enjoy!
