How To Clean A Pool Filter Cartridge

When should a cartridge element be cleaned?

For hot tubs and swim spas, establish a routine cartridge cleaning schedule based on the amount of spa usage. This should include rinsing the cartridge weekly (or more frequently with heavy use), as well as using Rapid Action Filter Cleanse every 4-6 weeks.

What is the procedure to clean my cartridge?

Weekly Rinsing

  1. Remove the cartridge from the filter housing following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Use a garden hose with a straight flow nozzle to wash down the filter element.
      • Work from the top down, holding the nozzle at a 45° angle, and wash all the pleats with emphasis between pleats.
      • Never use a pressure washer as this will damage the filter.

  3. Rinse until all dirt and debris is gone.

Chemical Cleaning

As cartridges have to filter out perspiration, sunscreen, body lotions, hair products, makeup, etc. It is important to chemically clean the filter cartridge as rinsing will not remove these.

  1. Add 200ml of Rapid Action Filter Cleanse for lightly used, 300ml for moderately used, or 400ml for heavily used filters to warm-hot water ensuring the filter is completely submerged.
  2. Let soak for a minimum of 15 minutes, then rinse the cartridge again.
  3. Let the cartridge air-dry completely before installing it back into the filter housing.
